E-Newsletter June 2018

Jai Jinendra and Pranam,

It is now two months, since we conducted our elections and I am pleased to say that all our nine Areas have had committees elected and all the daily routine activities for the members are now being planned and undertaken by the Areas.

Many of you must be enjoying the summer season, and a busy spell for the community with many weddings and celebrations being planned or taking a break for your summer holidays. On behalf of OAUK I take this opportunity to wish all the new couples our heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the future. In addition, many of our young Oshwals will be sitting exams at various levels. I wish them all the best and success for the exams.

I am pleased to say that we have allocated Portfolios to all the Trustees. All Trustees have now started planning their work and you will all be informed of the major programmes which are going to be undertaken in the next two years of our term.

Ekta Centre Refurbishment

Refurbishment work at Ekta Centre should be complete by end of June and will be available to utilise/hire from July 2018. For those of you who have seen the work, will agree, the Centre has improved substantially with a larger kitchen and dining Area. We are planning to construct our Ghar Derasar in July.

Oshwal House Extension

Work to extend our ground floor Dining hall in Oshwal House has commenced and will also include to enlarge and modernize our washrooms. There is a slight delay on this extension, as a small underground basement was discovered which meant our steel beams will need to be re-calculated to ensure the extension is compliant with the current standards required.

Derasar Canopy Extension

Derasar Canopy extension works has temporary been suspended due to circumstance beyond our control. As you are all aware the Home Office has drastically reduced the number of workers coming to UK to work. Although we followed all the steps required to apply for visas for our Indian team of workers, we were faced with the same difficulties. Our concerns have now been raised with several MPs and our Prime Minister. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience which has been created for reasons which were beyond our control.

Directory Updates

As you are aware this is a massive task for OAUK to undertake and our team of Volunteers are meeting on a regular basis to update and verify all member’s information. For those households who had not replied to a soft copy sent by Email, we then sent a paper copy of your household details by post. Please ensure this has been returned to us. To date just over 50% of the households have returned their details. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Books Collection

Once again we are launching a drive to collect the books (apart from Religious book) to be sent abroad for all needy people. If you have any books which you do not require, please drop it to Oshwal Centre Office at Potters Bar between 9.00 am to 5.00pm. Books will be collected from today until 31.08.18.

MP Visit

On 22nd June 2018 in conjunction with IOJ we had a visit from Mr Gareth Thomas. He is a Member of Parliament for Harrow West since 1997 to date. A Derasar visit was organised for him plus trip round our centre had been given. He was very impressed with our site.

Series of Regular Talks

Please visit our website and look out for future dates of regular talks by our Oshwals and other lecturers who would inspire us on their personal experiences in achieving goals, talks on Education, and other relevant topics. Our first lecture is by Professor Shirish. L Shah who will be coming from Canada. Please note the date for this lecture will be on 18th July 2018 at Ekta Centre from 7.45pm to 10.30pm
