Our objectives for hosting the event are:
- To celebrate and raise awareness of International day of disabled persons (IDDP) – A UN designated day celebrated internationally on 3rd December each year with the aim to promote an understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
- To raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s society and DEMAND.
As this is the 50th year of the Oshwal Association of the UK (OAUK), we thought it befitting to celebrate in an inclusive way. All funds raised will be shared between the three charities.
Why the Alzheimer’s society?
The Alzheimer’s society is a charity for people with dementia and their carers. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK with the number set to rise to over 2 million by 2051. Many of us have a family member or know of a member of the community who has been affected by dementia. More research into Dementia and a cure are required, similar to what we have for cancer these days. To find out more about the society’s work visit www.alzheimers.org.uk
DEMAND stands for Design and Manufacture for Disability.
They help people with disabilities improve their experience in both day to day and by being able to access more life enriching opportunities, through creating bespoke equipment or providing access to sport and leisure activities. Our own community members have benefitted from the charity’s work including our Enabling Network Sports club. To find out more about what DEMAND does visit www.demand.org.uk
