Diwali on Trafalgar Square, a Mayor of London event, in partnership with the Diwali in London (DiL) Committee, of which OAUK is a member.
Sunday 28th of October 2018 will see the iconic Trafalgar Square featuring a treasure of Indian arts, crafts, culture, food, entertainment, interactive workshops… all to celebrate Diwali the Festival of Lights which falls on the 7th of November this year.
This event showcases scintillating music and dance performances that encapsulates the culture of the Indian subcontinent, in the largest Diwali stage event in Europe.
Our festivities begin with a journey into elegance and opulence that manifest in the Majestic Ghoomar Dance performance, for all to view. You then get a chance to partake in the vibrant and versatile Garba performance, with everybody performing to a live band. No experience is necessary and once you get the rhythm (easy-peasy), you’ll find that you can effortlessly introduce your own style into it.
That leads us nicely on to an entertainment galore, featuring performances by both community groups and professionals.
We also have numerous stalls distributed all over the square to make it more interactive and informative for our lovely guests.
Have you ever looked at a Sari and thought, “Wow, I’d love to try one on”? Well! here’s your opportunity. Have a sari draped around you, (by experienced sari drapers) feel the gracefulness of being in one and once you feel confident enough, join in the garba with the sari on.
Yoga is very popular these days due to its very evident health benefits. Whether you are a first timer or whether you practise yoga regularly, there’s something in these workshops for everybody
